Squirrel disrupts power in Dutch Hill

Just after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, residents living in Dutch Hill section of Tamaqua heard a loud bang and then their power went off. When residents living near the Willing Street and North Columbia Street intersection looked outside, they noticed that the power line's transformer fuse on one of the poles was on fire.

They also noticed a squirrel slowly limping away. Power was only out for a very short time. Some residents on the other side of town stated they also heard the loud bang, but didn't know what it was. Tamaqua Fire Chief Mark Bower and Tamaqua Police closed that section of Dutch Hill until PPL crews arrived did repairs. Attempts by neighbors to find and help the squirrel were unsuccessful.
