Annual spring concert of Lehighton Band, Sun.

The Lehighton Band will open its 147th season with their annual Spring Concert on Sunday, April 10, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The concert will be held in the auditorium of the Lehighton Area Middle School on Beaver Run Rd. in Lehighton.The concert, under the direction of Paul R. Smith, will feature a wide variety of musical styles.Beginning with the famous Sousa march, "Washington Post" the program gets off to a rousing start.The "Overture To Rienzi" by Richard Wagner will follow. This beautiful piece will take you from a beautiful hymn-like melody to a very martial segment. It will also feature the virtuosity of the ensemble.Changing pace, the band will play the Latin-American tune "Grenada."Other selections will include "A Salute To New York City," a medley of tunes with New York in the title; Leroy Anderson's lively "Fiddle Faddle" and selections from the Broadway hit, "Fiddler On The Roof."The band will also play several other marches including "Rolling Thunder March" by Henry Fillmore. This is a typical circus march and is called a screamer because it was used to excite the crowd.There is no admission charge however a free-will offering will be taken.
