Simple assault, harassment charges filed in Lansford

Edward Eidem, 35, of 262 W. Snyder Ave., Lansford, faces charges from an incident which occurred on Dec. 25, 2010, at 1:43 p.m. outside 23 E. Ridge St. Charges of simple assault and harassment were filed by Officer Christopher M. Ondrus. According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:

At 1:43 a.m. Christmas Day, Ondrus was dispatched to a domestic incident at 23 E. Ridge St., Apt. A. Upon arrival he was approached by the caller, a Tom Staruch, and Jonathan Oakes, both of whom witnessed the incident. They told Ondrus they had heard screaming in the street and saw a man punch a woman in the face twice before fleeing in a white Pontiac Grand Am.Ondrus found the car in the Sports Zoo parking lot. As he approached the car he saw a man, identified as Eidem, inside with his two children. Ondrus told Eidem why he was there. Eidem said he was in an altercation with his girlfriend, Jamie Bauder.Ondrus saw a small amount of blood on Eidem's ear and marks on his neck. He put Eidem and his children in his cruiser and went to speak with Bauder.Bauder told Ondrus she had gotten into an argument with Eidem, and that the argument had turned physical. She said Eidem had grabbed her by the neck, put her head into the trunk of the car and was choking her.She told Ondrus she broke free from Eidem after grabbing his groin area.Ondrus saw that she had scratch marks and black and blue marks on her arms, but Bauder denied needing medical attention.Bauder said she did not want Eidem charged.Ondrus advised Eidem he was being arrested for domestic violence. Eidem agreed to talk to Ondrus after being given his Miranda warning.Eidem told Ondrus that Bauder dove at him, clawing at his ear, neck and groin and that he tried to defend himself. He also stated that the marks on Bauder were self-inflicted due to a medical condition she suffers from.Eidem was released and advised of the pending charges.Eidem was also charged with simple assault and harassment after an incident which took place on March 10, 2011 at 10:10 p.m. Charges were filed by Det./Sgt. Jack Soberick. According to an affidavit of probable cause, Soberick was in the police station when he heard a woman screaming for help. He recognized Bauder, who was walking, with a baby in her arms, east on Snyder Avenue, near Tunnel Street. She was obviously coming to the police station.Soberick saw that the baby was wearing only a diaper and that Bauder was shoeless. After providing immediate assistance and calling EMS, he asked Bauder what happened. She told him that she and Eidem had argued, that it had gotten physical and that Eidem had shoved and hit her and grabbed her around the throat.Soberick checked, and saw red marks around her neck.Eidem was arrested and brought into the police station and read his Miranda warnings. He agreed to talk with Soberick about the incident.Eidem denied assaulting Bauder, but said they had gotten into an argument. Eidem claimed that, due to a medical condition Bauder has, he only pushed her to get her out of the house to prevent the fight from getting worse.Eidem did admit forcing her to leave with the baby, with both of them wearing only what they had on at the time, despite the heavy rainfall and flooding on that day. When Soberick asked about the marks on Bauder's neck, Eidem told him they were self-inflicted, as were all the other injuries Soberick had observed on Bauder.Eidem also alleged that Bauder had trashed the house. Officer Amie Barclay checked the property a short time later, and found only one table overturned and no other damage inside the house, which Eidem and Bauder shared.
