The American Cancer Society will host Look Good, Feel Better makeover workshops from 4-6 p.m., March 28, at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital's Board Room, Coaldale, and at the Schuylkill Medical Center South, 420 S. Jackson St., Pottsville.The sessions are free and open to all local female cancer patients actively undergoing cancer treatment.During the session, trained cosmetologists will meet with patients to discuss ways of using makeup and accessories to minimize appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.Look Good, Feel Better is offered in a group setting, providing participants with cancer education, information and support.Each woman will learn to apply makeup, using kits provided through the American Cancer Society's partnership with the Cosmetics, Toiletry and Fragrance Association and the National Cosmetology Association.Seating is limited, so registration is required. www.cancer.org.Free movieThe Tamaqua Elementary Parent Teacher Organization will sponsor a free movie night for children in kindergarten through second grade. The movie "Phineas and Ferb" will be presented on March 25 in the Rush Elementary School gym. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the movie scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.Children must be accompanied by an adult and siblings are also welcome to attend. Students, and their siblings, may come in their pajamas and are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag or beach towel. The 13-week course is designed to help you understand the foundation of financial management. The course is taught through entertaining and informative video lessons and peer dialogue to help you find your way out of debt, organize your finances through budgeting and prepare yourself for a future with less financial stress. A free preview will be held March 24 at the Salvation Army, beginning at 6 p.m. Classes will begin April 7, 6-8 p.m.Also, this spring, anyone interested may attend the first lesson free. A simple soup supper is being planned for April 7, prior to Stations of the Cross.The Lenten schedule will include Holy Hour and confession, every Wednesday, following the 9 a.m. Mass, and Thursdays, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Stations of the Cross will be observed every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.St. Jerome's Regional School will host an open house on March 24, from 6:30-8 p.m. Open house offers the public the opportunity to meet the administration and faculty members, review the curriculum, view student work and progress, etc. Refreshments will be served.Senior newsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart.Last week's meeting was attended by 88 members. Five new members, Joe and Joan Deitrich, Barbara Gallagher, Calvin Follmer and Howard Startzel, were warmly welcomed.President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and offered readings. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Love and Care."Vice President Doris Brobst and secretary Joan Anne Garber provided their respective reports. The group discussed upcoming events, including a Chinese Auction, trip to Shady Maple and a picnic at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club.Pinochle players are still needed for card sessions held following the meeting.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The meeting room is handicap accessible.
