Four area residents have been selected to serve as aides to the grand marshal for the 2011 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Jim Thorpe, which will be held on Sunday, March 13, beginning at 1 p.m. on upper Broadway in the community.

Emmett P. McCall, Carbon County recorder of deeds, will be the grand marshal of the 14th annual event, a brainchild of the Alec Campbell, Mauch Chunk Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Carbon County Mollie Maguire Division 1, Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, that started back in 1988 and has since drawn hundreds of thousands of visitors to Carbon County.The parade committee announced today that consistent with its past practices, the AOH and LAOH organizations have selected two aides each to join McCall in being recognized for their commitments to the region.They include Sean Conway, Gene Binder, Colleen Clauser and Mary Kay Malaska.Each of them will be presented their "sashes" at the committee's annual dinner program in March. That event is scheduled for Saturday, March 5, at The Grand Ballroom of Kelly's Irish Pub, Lansford. Grade School, later graduating in 1992 from Father Judge Catholic High School.He received a degree in the culinary arts from The Restaurant School of Philadelphia and attended the Chubb Institute, which led him to employment at Verizon Business where he has worked as a communications engineer for the past 11 years.Conway and his family vacationed in Jim Thorpe for many years before finally making a permanent move to the area in July 1999.He has been a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for 10 years and currently serves as its financial secretary.Conway and his wife, Stacey, are the parents of two children, Katie Rose, 13, and Cole Michael, 7.Gene BinderGene Binder is a son of the late Eugene and Kathleen Binder of Jim Thorpe. He is a graduate of Jim Thorpe Area High School and Penn State University and is currently the owner of the Binder Insurance Agency, Nesquehoning.He is one of six children, his siblings including Jimmy, Michael, Dennis, Kevin and Kathy.Gene has served as a knee-hi and CYO boys' and girls' basketball coach for close to 30 years, currently being the coach of St. Joseph's in Jim Thorpe and an assistant of the Marian Little Fillies.A member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for many years, he has helped with the parade lineup each year of its existence, and also assisted with the Lansford Pumpkin Parade and the Veterans Day Parade in Lansford.He is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe, the Summit Hill Lions Club, Marian Dinner Dance Silent Auction co-chairman and the Thomas J. McCall Memorial Foundation.He lives in Nesquehoning with his fiancee, Karen Sabol, and her son, Matthew, and his stepdaughter, Amanda Miller, and her son, Connor.Colleen ClauserColleen P. Clauser was born in Shamokin and is the youngest of five children of the late Roland and Margaret (Buggy) Scandle.She graduated in 1979 from Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Shamokin, and is employed as a social service assistant for the Carbon-Monroe-Pike Mental Health-Mental Retardation Program.Colleen and her husband James relocated to Jim Thorpe in 1990. They are members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.She continues to enjoy being active in the Jim Thorpe and is a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians since 1998. Colleen has been a member of the parade committee for 10 years and in 2006 was named Hibernian of the Year.Mary Kay MalaskaMary Kay Malaska was born in Palmerton, a daughter of James and Kathryn Carroll. She was raisedin Jim Thorpe with her brothers, Jim, Mike and Bob, and attended St. Joseph School, Jim Thorpe, later graduating in 1992 from Marian High School.She received a bachelor of science degree in occupational therapy from Alvernia College and is employed as a therapist by the Blue Mountain Health System in its Home Health Department.Mary Kay and her husband, Greg, reside in Jim Thorpe, with their two daughters, Maura, 3, and Hailey, 1-1/2. The family belongs to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jim Thorpe.She has been a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians since 1998, during which time she held the offices of Catholic Action, treasurer and Missions and Charities. She has also served on the parade committee for the past six years.
