New Story Fund awards $25,000 to families in PA

New Story, the leading provider of private schools and services designed to help children with the most serious and complex behavioral and educational challenges live good lives, has selected recipients of its Spring 2010 New Story Fund. The New Story Fund was created in 2009 to help families throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who don't have the funds to access goods and services needed to best support their children with special needs. For the Spring 2010 program, New Story awarded $25,000 to families throughout Pennsylvania who submitted applications describing their situation and need. The second submission period of the year is open now through August 31, 2010.

"We were very surprised and excited when we found out our family was selected for the New Story Fund," commented Dana Laughman, mother of 3-year-old Ayden who is severely apraxic. "We would consider ourselves middle class, but due to the severity of Ayden's disability, our finances are becoming strained. The New Story Fund will be used to cover Ayden's co-pays and allow us to continue his therapy in the frequency that Ayden so desperately needs, so he can continue making progress with his speech."New Story will distribute another $25,000 to the awarded families living in Pennsylvania to pay for goods and services needed to care for their children with special needs. Recipients will be selected and announced in Fall 2010."We are delighted to provide families with additional resources they need to help their children live good lives," commented Paul Volosov, Ph.D., founder and president of New Story. "Each family's story and situation is unique and we understand the financial burden that comes with supporting children with varying diagnosis and the challenges related to them. Our hope is for the Fund to help alleviate some of the financial burden and provide assistance to these children and their families in order for them to write new stories of growth and success."About the NewStory FundThe New Story Fund is designed to help children and families who are faced with the following challenges: autism spectrum disorder (ASD), emotional support needs, mental retardation or other developmental disabilities.
