Jakabcin District of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Auxiliary will hold its fall meeting on Sunday, Sept. 19.The event will be hosted by the Hazleton branches 45 and 105 and will be held in the Lobitz Catering Hall, Rt. 940, Hazleton, beginning at 1:30 p.m.Members of the St. Ann Society of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, and other local branch members who are planning to attend should call President Veronica Bazik, (570) 645-5253, to make reservations. For more information, contact Bob Pavlik, (570) 645-2566, or Chris Henritzy, 645-7083.Borough meetingsLansford Borough Council committee meetings for next week are as follows:Public Safety Committee, Monday, Aug. 30, at 6:30 p.m. in the community center.Public Works Committee, Monday, Aug. 30, at 7:30 p.m., in the community center.Municipal Administration and Finance Committee, Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. in the borough office.Summit HillFood distributionThe Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food to the needy in the community on a monthly basis, with the deliveries usually taking place on the fourth Tuesday of each month.The Summit Hill Lions Club has taken on the task of assisting the pantry with its distributions. Boxes are usually packed on a Thursday, beginning at 9 a.m. The Second Harvest truck delivery of commodities (which needs to be unloaded) usually takes place on the last Thursday of the month. Lions Club members are reminded of this service project. Openings exist for the parish council and finance committee, Our Lady of the Angels Academy school board and the OLOAA finance committee. The only requirement is a desire to perpetuate the Catholic school. It is not necessary that those serving in the school capacities have a child at OLOAA.Anyone interested in the positions is asked to contact the Rev. James Burdess, pastor.
