Concert in Lehighton Park this evening

The last of this year's Concerts Under The Stars will be held tonight in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater at 8 o'clock and in Eurana Park, Weatherly at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Performing will be the Lehighton Band under the direction of Paul R. Smith.A concert of light music has been planned for this concert and there should be something in the program to please everyone in the audience.The concert will open with a Sousa march, "National Fencibles" followed by the lively "Bolero" by Mozkowski. "Nocturne," a very beautiful tone poem will follow.Next will be the "Overture to The Student Prince" by Sigmund Romberg. This number is from one of the earlier Broadway musicals and has "Students March Song," "Just We Two" and "Deep In My Heart, Dear" among others in the medley.The soloist for the concert will be Joseph Plechavy singing "As Time Goes By." Joe recently retired as the vocal teacher at Palmerton High School and is also the conductor of the Palmerton Band.As the concert continues, you will hear Leroy Anderson's "Horse And Buggy" and "When You Wish Upon A Star" from the Disney movie, Pinnochio.The second medley of show tunes will be music from "The Wizard Of Oz" which will include "Ding, Dong, The Witch Is Dead," "We're Off To See The Wizard," "Over The Rainbow" and others.The band continues with an old standard, "Midnight In Paris" followed by a patriotic number, "1776 Medley" which contains two familiar tunes, Yankee Doodle and Chester.No Lehighton Band concert is complete without several marches. In addition to the first march listed, the band will play "World Events March" by Zamecnik and "American Bells March" by Kramer.In case of inclement weather, the Lehighton concert will be held in the Lehighton Boys and Girls Band Hall at Sixth and Coal Streets in Lehighton.There is no rain date for the Weatherly concert.The music for these concerts is provided by donations from businesses, professional people and music lovers from throughout the area as well as a sponsorship from the Weatherly Borough Council.
