Lehighton Band, Zion Workshop combine for Lehighton concert

The Lehighton Band and the Zion Opera Workshop will join forces Thursday evening for the second in the series of "Concerts Under The Stars" in the Lehighton Park Amphitheater beginning at 8 p.m.

In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held in the Boys and Girls Band Hall, Sixth and Cypress Streets, Lehighton.The concert will begin with the band playing Sousa's "The Invincible Eagle" followed by a delightful overture, "Overture De Argentina.""Port-Au-Prince is next after which a woodwind quintet will be featured playing "Latin Reeds." Members of this group are Brad Cressley, Katie Sabol, Rebecca Fritz, Erienne Galvin and Kenneth Leffler."Ringgold Rhapsody" will present two old-time Pennsylvania Dutch tunes: "Johnny Schmoker" and "Schnitzelbank." This number was written by Henry Gass, an attorney by profession, for the Ringgold Band of Reading.The "Klaxon March" by Henry Fillmore will round out the first portion of the program.In the next five numbers, the band will be joined by members of the Zion Opera Workshop. This group, organized in 1970, has appeared several times with the band over the past forty years.In this concert they will sing "The Mansions Of The Lord," "The Rainbow Connection" as well as selections from "The Music Man."Barbara Balon and Robert Fatzinger will sing the solo parts in "The Music Man." Their last two numbers will be "The Impossible Dream" and "God Bless America."The band will finish the concert with a medley of tunes from various motion pictures entitled "Hollywood Milestones" and a medley of patriotic tunes, "An American Tribute." Sousa's famous march, "The Liberty Bell" will conclude the program.The concert is free and the public is urged to attend. The music for this program is provided by donations from local businesses, professional people and music lovers from throughout the area.
