Award winning season for local dancers

IMPACT dance team from Dance with Kim School of Performing Arts in Lehighton enjoyed a successful 2010 competition season.

Team students attended the Starbound Talent competition in Scranton. Junior and senior teams received Gold and High Gold awards in ballet, tap jazz, contemporary, lyrical, character and pointe categories.Senior IMPACT received an eighth overall for their contemporary piece "Red Football."Junior and senior IMPACT received a third place overall for "Dive in the pool," which also received a judge's award for "Fun formations." The junior team received a first place overall award for its tap piece, "South is Gonna Do it Again," and a 10th place overall for "Cannon in D," a ballet piece.Soloists were Elizabeth Anthony, Elizabeth Beck, Lillian Brown, Tia Brownmiller, Tiffany Erney, Haley Haggerty, Brittany Semmel, Emily Snyder, Alyssa Smith and Jordyn Zwetolitz. Zwetolitz received a first place overall petite soloist title; Brown placed second overall; and Semmel received an eighth place overall.Judges awards went to Snyder for "best leap sequence," Erney for "Best Jumps," and Semmel for "Beautiful Arabesques." All students qualified for Nationals.At the Starquest Talent competition in Lancaster, DWK dance teams and students received Gold and High Gold awards. A second place top score of the entire competition was awarded to "Dive in the Pool," which also received the judges award for "High Energy."Earning a fourth place overall top score was "Technologic." A third place overall top score was awarded to "South is Gonna Do it Again." The costume award went to "Cannon in D," a ballet piece performed by the Junior Team. The aforementioned soloists were also featured. Semmel received a third place overall top score.Director of DWK Kimberly Semmel received a choreography award for "Dive in the pool."At the Starpower talent competition in Philadelphia, mini IMPACT dance team received a fifth place overall for its tap piece to "Pa 65000," and a 10th overall for its character piece to "Ease on Down the Road." The team received a first place award and were voted most entertaining in that age division.The mini group also received the judges award "Most Precious" for the ballet piece entitled "What a Wonderful World."Junior and Senior Teams received a second place overall top score, best jazz routine and highest scoring jazz piece of the weekend with "Dive in the pool." "Technologic" tap piece received a third place overall, second best tap routine of the weekend and a special "Out of This World" judges award."South is Gonna Do it Again" received third top tap score of the weekend. Soloists included Beck, Brown, Brownmiller, Erney, Haggerty, Jordan Lorah, Semmel, Snyder, Alyssa Smith, Kaitlin Smith, Riley Zimmerman and Zwetolitz.Zwetolitz received a seventh place overall top score and Brown received a second place overall top score and Power Pak nomination.Kim Semmel received a choreography award for "Dive in the pool."Dance with Kim dancers will be featured in the 23rd annual production, "Reaching New Heights" on June 19 at Lehighton Area High School.
