Board approves application for temporary occupancy by family

The conditional use application of James L. and Julia M. Saeger for a dwelling unit for temporary occupancy by a family member was the subject of a duly advertised public hearing before the Polk Township Supervisors, preceding the regularly scheduled Board meeting Monday.

After the presentation of five township exhibits, one Saeger exhibit and testimony by the couple as to the building's use and size, and the township solicitor's reminder of all of the regulations included in the situation, as well as the assurance of the zoning officer that parking was "adequate" and the plan's sewage issue being before the DEP, the hearing was closed, with the solicitor reminding all that the supervisors had 45 days to issue a decision. However, the board opted to approve the application during the regular meeting, subject to various conditions. The Supervisors also acted on several other property matters, including giving a 3-0 approval to the final lot line adjustment plan of Robert E. and Tracy L. Serfass, and Travis C. Serfass; granting a 90-day time extension to the Vernon L. Frable minor subdivision; and approving the planning module of Walter And Betsy Bojko subdivision plan, subject to the SEO and Planning Commission signatures. It was decided to go "full speed ahead" on the complaint filed regarding a malfunctioning sand mound and to hire a part-time, as needed employee, with no guaranteed hours and no benefits, for $12 an hour to do maintenance inside and out. At the request of Steve Parisi, the Township did vote 3-0 to send a letter of support to have the Pennsylvania State Police relocate to Polk Township on a site on the south side of Route 209 and west of the intersection of Burger Hollow and Lower Green Hill roads.Supervisor Nancy May detailed Census information, including that so far only 64 per cent of the Township's residents have returned their Census forms. She reiterated the importance of everyone returning those forms as state funding, federal funding, block grants, planning for construction of major buildings, and legislative representation, is dependent upon the census returns."I would urge everyone to respond (to the Census)," she said.Township Clean-up Day is this Saturday and those who do not have the new stickers will not be allowed to use the township facility. Already over 1,000 permits have been issued. An invitation from Chestnuthill Township, by way of that township's solicitor, Att. Joseph McDonald Jr., invites Polk personnel to view the official map of Chestnuthill Township at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 1.As for Polk's street classification, that is ongoing, said solicitor James Fareri. Ongoing also is the legal action Zoning Officer Gerald Zurat was given permission to file against a property owner who has not completed the corrective actions on recognized violations. Should that property owner now comply, the Township can always withdraw the action. However, it is past time to act was the board's view; hence the permission to pursue said court action.
