Weissport approves purchasing a speed timing device for police

It's time to lighten up your lead foot if you're driving anywhere in Weissport.

Weissport Council on Monday night approved a payment of $1.495 to YIS/Cowden Group, York, to purchase a VSPEC speed timing device at the request of Police Chief Steve Mansueto. The price includes installation costs and training. The costs for the device and training will be coming out of the remaining grant funding for the police department.Mansueto said that this type of device is authorized for use by the police department by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.Mansueto said that he will be taking vacation days to get certified in the use of the VSPEC device.Council also went into executive session where they decided to let borough worker go who has abandoned the job.Tim Rehrig, council president, said that the worker has not responded to phone calls. The worker will be contacted by Mansueto to return any borough equipment and keys as soon as possible.Rehrig noted that another worker may be hired as need arises, but that until there is a need, the position will remain vacant.Weissport presently has one borough worker, Dennis Moser, remaining on the payroll.
