ACS telethon is set this weekend

Once again there is a stellar lineup of entertainment for the annual telethon of the Tamaqua-Carbon Unit of the American Cancer Society.

The telethon is being held at Penn's Peak in Jim Thorpe on Saturday and Sunday from noon to midnight both days. It is being broadcast live on Blue Ridge Communications TV-13.Telethon regulars such as folk singer Jay Smar, the Pa. Villagers polka band, the talented Jim Cimms, Maury Rutch, Becky and the Beasts, Pat McGeehan, Maury Rutch, Danny Farole, and Angela Nardini will be among the performers.George Taylor, a founder of the Telethon and entertainment chairman, said the entertainment will be continuous except for the breaks when appeals are made, pledges are read, and awards are presented.Sunday night, three local residents will be receiving Courage Awards. They are:Jamie Lynn Tatusko, 25, of Nesquehoning, who is battling Hodgkins lymphoma.Betty Ann Waidell of Tamaqua has breast cancer.Elizabeth "Lee" Bubel Kostin of Brockton is 84 years old. She is undergoing treatment for cancer in the neck, throat, and lungs.The awards will be presented beginning at 7:15 p.m. Sunday.There are bands, dance schools, barbershoppers, and individuals providing entertainment.
