The FC Panthers, affiliated with the Panther Valley Youth Soccer Association, placed first in a recent 3v3 Soccer tournament held at the Lehighton Area High School Complex. The U8/U9 champions include, front row from left, Aaron Miller, Bradley Bussard, Carter Brettle; back row, Mitchell Sabol, Lexi Ruzicka, Blake Morgans and Austin Buyce. The coaches are Doug Yoder and Jack Ruzicka. The team went 4-0, outscoring their opponents 38-2 and qualified for the 2010 National Tournament to be held in Hamilton, Ohio.

Franklin Township won a pair of games this week to stay alive in the District 18 11-12 year-old double-elimination Little League Tournament.

FT-Anthracite

Dante Salerno and Brody Hydro both had big games to lead Franklin Township to an 18-0 victory over Anthracite in a loser's bracket game on Wednesday.

Salerno and Hydro both had three hits and score three runs. Wyatt Clements added a home run for Franklin while Evan Haberman and Tegan Durishin chipped in two hits each.

Brady Niehoff was the winning pitcher.

Tamaqua's Legion team returned to the win column by beating Schuylkill Valley on Tuesday.

Despite allowing seven runs in the top of the first inning, Tamaqua bounced back and came from behind to defeat the Schuylkill Valley Falcons, 18-8 in six innings.

Tamaqua committed six errors in the opening frame and aided Schuylkill Valley to its big inning.

The Lehighton Legion came up with three big wins over the weekend and could clinch at least a tie for the LV championship with a win at Northern Valley on Tuesday.

Greg Pecha hurled Lehighton to a 12-2 five-inning win over Mountainville on Saturday.

Jacen Nalesnik was two-for-three with four RBI's, including a two-run homer in the third.

Lehighton played a Lehigh Valley Legion game that was suspended by darkness in youth baseball action on Wednesday.

Lehighton and Lower Macungie both staged seventh inning comebacks in a Lehigh Valley Legion League game that was eventually suspended by darkness.

The game was suspended after eight innings with the score tied at 6-6. It will be completed tonight before the regularly scheduled game between the two teams in Lehighton at 6 p.m.

Tamaqua rolled to a recent Schuylkill-Berks Legion victory, while the Franklin Township Patriots also enjoyed recent success in Carbon Babe Ruth League action.

Tamaqua scored 11 runs in the first and Derek Linkhorst pitched a one-hitter as the Blue Sox rolled to a recent 14-0 win over Wyomissing.

Linkhorst walked three and struck out five in his five innings of work. He also had two hits, one a double, scored twice and knocked in two runs.

In a matchup of top Keystone Senior Babe Ruth teams, the Franklin Township Hurricanes pulled way for a win over the Panther Valley Black Diamonds.

In other baseball action, the Palmerton/Towamensing Orioles of the Carbon County Babe Ruth League posted five recent wins.

Lehighton used a strong pitching performance from Ryan Blasko and a pair of late runs to edge South Parkland, 3-1, in Lehigh Valley Legion League play on Friday.

Blasko pitched six innings. he allowed just five hits and no earned runs while striking out two.

With the game tied at 1-1, Ryan Porambo opened the top of the seventh with a triple and scored on a Dan Russo triple. Derek Heffelfinger's sacrifice fly produced an insurance run.

Russo had two hits and two RBIs for Lehighton (1-1). Porambo added a pair of hits and scored twice.

Ben Stermer tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight batters, to help lead the Franklin Township Hurricanes to an 8-1 win over the Upper Mount Bethel Muckdogs.

Stermer had a perfect game through four innings as the Hurricanes improved to 4-1.

Brandyn Gates hit a home run for the winners.
