Penn State's new head man in charge Bill O'brien has put together his coaching staff for the hopefully new look Nittany Lions. The present New England Patriots offensive coordinator promised he would put together the best staff for Penn State and that he would do it swiftly. He wasn't lying about the time frame, but as far as the best staff for Penn State is concerned, only time will tell on that subject. Until then, there's only one thing left to do, which is to analyze O'brien's hirings.

Well, it's almost that time to say goodbye to 2011 and usher in 2012, but before I do that, Good Ol' Santa has decided to make his usual stop here at THE TIMES NEWS Sports Department to find out who's been naughty or nice since he stopped here last time around.

I saw the hit that the Steelers James Harrison put on the Browns Colt McCoy and immediately I was angered.

My first thought was, "He did it again!".

My anger is oddly not directed towards the hit as it was my thinking about what will happen, and did happen, in the coming days.

I pictured Harrison playing the victim and vowing not to change and former NFL players and coaches who are now 'experts' defending him.

The 2012 Major League Baseball season is still months away.

That isn't going to stop a die-hard baseball fan especially this true Philadelphia Phillies fan from talking about what's happening now.

There's a lot going on with "America's pastime" right now something that I expect will continue through the off-season and right up until the Phillies' opener on April 5th in Pittsburgh.

Over the past nine seasons, he's had one of the most successful boys programs in the TIMES NEWS area.

He won four league titles, one district championship and reached the postseason all nine years.

But yet he never seemed to get the recognition he probably desereved.

Bring up Karl Rentzheimer's name around the area, and you're sure to get a few, Who? responses.

Among our writers and throughout the scholastic baseball region, though, Rentzheimer was widely regarded as one of the top people in his profession.

There's plenty going on around the sports world right now.

This week the Press Pass will take a look at one local, one regional and one national item that have been in the news this recently.

This week Governor Tom Corbett signed a bill that puts new regulations on how concussions are dealt with among scholastic athletes.

The bill, which goes into effect in July of 2012, calls for athletes who suffer a concussion to come out of the game and not be allowed to return to practice or play without written clearance from a medical professional with expertise in concussions.
