May 15, 2008 - Three area girls and one relay team capture gold medals during the District 11 Track and Field championships at Blue Mountain. Palmerton’s Casey Ord turns in an outstanding performance, winning three Class 2A events. Ord races to victories in the 100 in a time of 12.80, and the 200 in 25.58. The senior also claims the triple jump with a distance of 37-2. Tamaqua’s Casey Wagner takes the 2A javelin with a throw of 146-3, while Lehighton’s Vanessa Rimbey captures the 3A 100 hurdles in 15.75. Jim Thorpe’s 400 relay team of Lashanda Jackson, Ashley Nicola, Janae Knox and JaAshia Page also earns gold in 2A, crossing the finish line in 51.03.
