What ended as a rain-suspended game, started as a fast paced physical boys soccer match between East Stroudsburg South and Lehighton.

Mother nature did not cooperate, however, as the Mountain Valley Conference showdown was called with the score tied at 1-1 and 29:22 left in the second half. The game will be completed from the point of interuption at a date and time to be announcedWhile the ending might not have been what either team hoped for, the first fifty minutes of the contest was full of action.Lehighton applied pressure and kept possession inside of the Cavaliers side of the field for essentially the entire game."We're doing some different things on the field," said Lehighton coach David Yob. "We're trying to play more possession than the past."As the Indians kept pushing, the Cavaliers were forced to use quick runs and counterattacks whenever the opportunity bounced their way.With 28 minutes left in the first half, East Stroudsburg South was assessed a yellow card. Lehighton was awarded a free kick about five yards outside of the ESS box.Derek Berger of the Indians took the free kick and hit a beautiful ball that caught the upper left hand side of the crossbar and was eventually cleared by the Cavaliers.The game remained scoreless until seven minutes later when Lehighton's Joe Marks came up with a loose ball in the box and was able to easily net the game's first goal.With 12 minutes left in the half, the Cavaliers had one of those counter attack runs toward Indian territory. Joey Jacona was able to score off of a great ball from Mollenthial.East Stroudsburg South had opportunties to take the lead, but Lehighton goalkeeper Tyler Dietz made several key saves to keep the score even."Tyler is a freshman who is still learning the position," Yob said. "He has some club experience but it's still a lot of responsibility to place on a young man. He is improving and I know he will continue to do so."In terms of first half team statistics, they were as even as the final score was.Shots on goal only differed by two shots. East Stroudsburg South had four saves. Each team had two corners."We need to continue to grow with our ball possession work and keep moving the ball," Yob said. "Communication has improved greatly since last season but still needs to continue to improve."
