All four local boys soccer teams recorded victory over the Labor Day Weekend.

BOYS SOCCER

Lehighton-Dieruff

The Indians' Joe Marks started the scoring in the first half for the early lead and was followed by Anthony Farano added insurance later in the first half to produce a 2-0 win over Dieruff in non-league action.

Josh Knappenberger and Anthony Rossino added assists for the Indians (2-0), while teammate Nick Hill stopped one shot in the Tribe's goal.

Dieruff drops to 0-2 on the year.

No. Lehigh-Palmerton

Palmerton needed two overtime periods to escape with a 4-3 victory over Northern Lehigh.

Austin Shupp led the Blue Bombers with a hat trick and also scored the winning goal, while Devon Santos added the other single goal.

The Blue Bombers' Logan Blasiak recorded an assist on Shupp's first goal.

The Bulldogs' Sean Mulcahy finished with two goals, while Zeb Shiffert contributed a single score.

NL's Jacob Traca set Shiffert up for his goal with an assist.

Northwestern

-East Pennsboro Tourney

The Tigers pulled out an exciting 2-1 win over East Pennsboro in the Invitational over the weekend.

Pleasant Valley blanked Northampton for a 2-0 non-conference victory.

Noah Fulcomer and Hako Beskovic accounted for the Bears' goals, while Cole Bernier and Justin Habick recorded the assists.

Pleasant Valley improves to 2-0 on the season, while Northampton falls to 1-1.

Lehighton-Oley Valley

Oley Valley spoiled Lehighton's season opener by handing it a 8-0 non-conference setback.

Erin Gillingham and Skyler Fretz paced OV's offense with two goals each.

The Indians' keeper Lauren Burrows faced 22 shots and was able to record 14 saves on the day.

No. Lehigh-Liberty

Taylor Kane's first half goal stood up for the Hurricanes in a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs.

Liberty outshot Northern Lehigh 5-4. Chelsea Hartan had four saves for the Bulldogs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Palmerton-No. Lehigh

The Lady Bombers pulled out an exciting 2-1 win over Northern Lehigh, behind the scoring of Jaclyn Wood and Briann Doherty.

In a game where the Lady Bulldogs outshot their foes 13-10, the Lady Bombers found the net one more time to nab the victory.

Northern Lehigh's Rachel Pappas scored her team's sole goal, while teammate Brook Seyler stopped four Palmerton shots in the net.

Kaylie Haskins had seven saves for the Bombers.

Northampton

-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley used two second half goals to pull away with a 3-1 non-conference win over visiting Northampton.

Nicole Dudkewic paced the Bears' attack with two goals, while Dana McAllister added the other score.

Teammates Keri Dekmar and Jamie Masullo were credited with assists.

Pleasant Valley moves to 1-1 on the season, while Northampton slips to 0-2.

Lehigh Valley Christian-Lehighton

Four different Lehighton players recorded individual goals in this non-league soccer match-up, as they defeated Lehigh Valley Christian, 4-0.

Cheyenne Pettit started the scoring first, and was followed by first-half scores from teammates Sydney Gandy and Allison Andrew. Erica Koutch booted an insurance goal in the second to help her team to a 1-1 record on the season.

The Lady Indians outshot their opponents 40-4 in the game with Koutch stopping four attempts in goal for Lehighton.

Lehigh Valley Christian's Reghan O'Brien had 30 stops for LVC.

Northwestern

-East Pennsboro Tourney

The Lady Tigers defeated the East Pennsboro Tournament's hosts, 8-0 in the Invitational.

Hazleton-Tamaqua

Tamaqua opened the regular season with a 3-0 non-conference victory over Hazleton.

Taylor Fritz led the Blue Raiders with a goal and an assist or Tamaqua, while Morgan Boyle and Lynn Kistler posted single scores.

Carly Sassman grabbed four saves between the Blue Raiders' posts for the shutout win.

GIRLS TENNIS

Tamaqua-Whitehall

The Lady Zephyrs pulled out a 6-1 win over Tamaqua in a non-league tennis match.

The sole win for the Lady Raiders was the doubles team of Sarah Zoba and Carly Fenstermacher as they won 6-0.

Meanwhile, Beth Kistler and Maddie Davis dropped a heartbreaker at the number two doubles spot, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.

The Lady Bears managed one singles win and three doubles victories to pull out a 4-3 non-league win over the Konkrete Kids.

Emily Thek won the singles match, while Thek and Madison Olexon took the first doubles match. Paolo Mieles and Monica Jarog also won in doubles as did Andrea Nale and Emily Borger.

Lehighton, Northwestern, Tamaqua-Cardinal Clash Tournament

Lehighton cruised through pool play with a 7-2 record in the Cardinals Clash Tournament over the weekend, but ended up falling in the Gold Pool championship game against Southern Lehigh. Southern Lehigh bested the Indians for a 25-13 in the title match.

Both Northwestern and Tamaqua finished pool play with no victories. Tamaqua fell to Schuylkill Haven 25-15 in the Silver Pool consolation quarterfinals, while Northwestern was defeated 17-25 by Pine Grove in the same pool quarterfinals.

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Panther Valley walked off the court with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-9 victory over Weatherly.

Richelle Van Horn paced the Panthers' attack with 16 service points, 11 assists, five aces and four kills, while Jamey Mikovich added eight kills, seven digs, four service points, three aces, three blocks and two assists.

PV's Marley Mikovich contributed nine service points, six kills, four aces and three digs.

The Wreckers' Samantha Hartz finished with six digs, one kill and one block, while Kirsten Ursta recorded two digs, two kills and a block.

Lexi Hartz notched four digs and two kills for the Wreckers, while Shannon Sarosky added five assists.

Northampton

-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley defeated Northampton in four games, 18-25, 25-9, 27-25, and 25-18, in a non-league contest.

Courtney Miller led the Lady Bears with 10 kills in the win, and also added eight blocks. Mackenzie Dorney had 12 digs and five kills for the winners, and teammate Kiersten Griesback chipped in 19 assists and nine digs. Katie Lenart also contributed 12 digs, while Ashley Rivera had eight kills and eight digs, in a well-rounded team effort.

The Lady Bears also prevailed in the JV contest, 2-0.
