Military services were held for Pfc. David L. Verbilla, 19, the first Tamaqua serviceman killed in the Vietnam War, in Ss. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Tamaqua. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Verbilla, and died May 3 while serving with Co. A of the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, in a battle for three hills in South Vietnam. A detachment of Marines under the command of Maj. J. O. Cranford of the Marine Corps Reserve units at Reading and Freemansburg performed the military honors in a drizzling rain.
