Two crashes in Monroe County, one involving a motorcycle, have driving under the influence (DUI) charges pending against the drivers. State police at Fern Ridge investigated both crashes.

Troopers said about 11:38 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, Dallas L. Seidel, 34, of Emmaus, was operating a 1997 Harley-Davidson FXSTC Soft Trail cycle westbound on Chestnut Drive in Ross Townsip, at an excessive rate of speed when he failed to negotiate a right curve. He lost control of the bike which crossed over into the eastbound lane and onto the berm and into a yard.

Troopers said Seidel was unconscious when West End ambulance personnel arrived on scene. He was flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill, for treatment of what troopers said were major injuries. Troopers added Seidel was wearing a helmet.

Troopers added the investigation includes whether Seidel was under the influence of alcohol at the time. The DUI charge is pending blood test results.

The second crash occurred about 9:24 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, along Jonas Road at Toll Road, in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Gerald Vanspanje, 48, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound when he went onto the berm and struck a stop sign, and then a rock.

Vanspanje was not injured. He was placed under arrest for DUI, troopers said.
