Download e-books free

The Palmerton Area Library has over 1,000 e-books available for free download for all patrons through cooperation with the Allentown Library District Center. A library card from the Palmerton Area Library with a bar code on the back is a necessity. The next step is visiting the library Web site at www.palmertonarealibrary.com [1]. Click on the e-book link along the left side of the webpage. There you will find directions for signing up for a netlibrary account (which is free of charge). You only need to sign up once, after that you can go directly to netlibrary. Once you have your netlibrary account you can begin to search for books by title, author, genre or age level or listen to a sample from the book. From there the books are easily downloaded onto a listening device. Many of the books are compatible with apple products like the iPod.

The books may be downloaded to your computer but it is not necessary to do that step, they can go directly onto your mp3 player. The e-book will remain on your device for three weeks (longer if you renew them) and after that it will disappear so there are never any overdue fines. There are lots of general fiction, nonfiction, and kids books available. Call the library at (610) 826-3424 for more information.

Check out the new drop box in front of the Palmerton Area Library. The library is having an amnesty month through Jan. 31. Any items (books, dvd's, etc.) returned into the box will be checked in with no fines.

Library hours are now Monday and Tuesday: 10-8, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: 10-5, and Saturday: 9-4. The library has six computers with Internet access, fax and copy service. Story hour for preschoolers is offered every Friday at 10:30 a.m. The Teen Group meets at the library the first Wednesday of each month after school. The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. New members and visitors are always welcome.
