State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating several crashes recently on Schuylkill County roadways.

A crash occurred about 7:43 a.m. on Friday, April 29, along SR61 at Seven Stars Road, at the Cressona Mall in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Christopher J. Whalen, 30, of Schuylkill Haven, and Kimberly A. Edling, 36, of Centerport, Berks County, were both northbound in the right lane. Whalen said he looked down to get something and the front of his 2003 Toyota Corolla struck the rear of Edling's 2006 Nissan Xterra.

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported that 35 pounds of prescription pills and other medicatons were collected during the second annual National Take Back day that was held on Saturday, April 30.

The program is held in conjunction with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and state and local law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.

The purpose of the program is to provide a venue for persons who wanted to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 8:25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, along SR209 in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at Fern Ridge said Nakil Mehmedi, of Brodheadsville, was observed in the parking lot of a local business involved in suspicious activity. Troopers pulled behind Mehmedi and observed that he was attempting to take perforated pipe from the property.

Troopers said Mehmedi had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his breath.

A Berks County man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with the robbery of a Schuylkill County bank last year.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Algis Diaz, 25, of Reading, has been charged with the Aug. 6 robbery of the Susquehanna Bank branch office located along SR61 in Orwigsburg.

Troopers said a male entered the bank about 9:45 a.m. and demanded money. He received money from one of the tellers after he handed the teller a note stating that the bank was being robbed.

The Allentown enforcement office of the state liquor control board conducted compliance checks on Saturday, April 30, at establishments in Tremont and Pine Grove areas of Schuylkill County. The checks were conducted during the period of 6:30 and 9:40 p.m.

The age compliance check detail checked a total of five licensed establishments. One of the five was found to be "non-compliant." Non-compliant is defined as a licensed establishment that sold alcoholic beverages to underage individuals trained and supervised by the state police, bureau of liquor control enforcement.

The operator of a all terrain vehicle (ATV) that crashed on Sunday in Luzerne County, has died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Michael Benyo, 21, of Milnesville, died at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, at 3:30 p.m. Monday. Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim said Benyo died of multiple traumatic injuries.

State police at Hazleton said Benyo was operating an ATV along Lattimer Road in Hazle Township about 6:43 p.m. Sunday when he lost control and crashed into a utility pole.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges following an incident that occurred about 11:14 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, at the Hess Express service station in Pine Grove Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said troopers responded to the station to a report of a person unresponsive in a vehicle. Upon arrival troopers made contact wtih James C. Rehrer, 47, of Pine Grove, who was in a 1993 Ford F150 truck. He was found to be under the influence and during the investigation troopers found a small amount of marijuana on him.

A Monroe County driver is facing charges.

State police at Lehighton said John J. Lamp, 31, of Kunkletown, was stopped about 9:18 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, along SR209 in Polk Township, for a traffic violation. At the stop police said Lamp was found to be under the influence and in possession of a concealed weapon without a permit. He is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) and a weapons violations charge, troopers said.

State police at Lehighton reported investigating a one-vehicle crash about 2:09 p.m. on Monday, May 2, along SR534 in Polk Township, Monroe County, in which the driver was cited.

Troopers said Deborah J. Dyer, 46, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2003 Ford Expedition northbound when the vehicle went off the road and crashed. Dyer, who was not injured, was cited for careless driving, troopers said.

A New York resident was cited for dumping garbage at a Monroe County site. Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on the incident and a drunk driving arrest.

Police said on April 5 they received a report from Lake Naomi security in Tobyhanna, about four bags of garbage being dumped in the area. On April 16 police received another report from security about six more bags of garbage being found in the area.
