State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating the death of a Schuylkill County man.

Troopers said the body of Michael Burda, 92, of Wayne Township, Schuylkill Haven, was found in his home on Wednesday, April 6, about 1:30 p.m.

The cause of death has not been determined. Troopers said the investigation is continuing pending the result of an autopsy.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing charges, including driving under the influence (DUI) and fleeing police, following an incident that began about 1:37 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, along Peach Mountain Road, in Norwegian Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the above location after the vehicle swerved into the oncoming lane.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, along SR61, just south of Mall Road, at the Schuylkill Mall in New Castle Township.

State police at Frackville said Justin L. Heiser, 24, of Frackville, was driving a 1993 Nissan Altima southbound in the left lane when he lost control while rounding a slight right curve.

State police at Schuylkill Haven released their statistical report of activities for the month of March.

In the criminal division there were 112 offenses reported with 112 founded, 78 cleared and 66 arrests made. In the traffic division there were 45 crashes, one fatality, seven hit and runs, 29 injured, 11 drunk driving arrests, five DUI related crashes, 317 citations issued and 84 written warnings.

There were 526 incidents for the month.

A Monroe County woman has been cited for scrattering rubbish following an incident that occurred on March 31 about 5 p.m.

State police at Lehighton said Mary Catherine Bellis, 57, of Blossom Ave., Effort, was cited for allegedly throwing household garbage into a dumpster owned by Steve's Carpet, and located along SR209 in Gilbert, Polk Townsip, Monroe County. The owner of the dumpster is Steve Dougherty, 50, of Gilbert, troopers said.

State police at Lehighton are investigating two criminal trespass incidents.

Troopers said the first occurred at 1005 Interchange Road, in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Unknown persons entered a building at that location. The incident was reported at 6:57 p.m. on Monday, April 4. The property is owned by Richard Rati, 53, of Rockbale, Tenn.

The second incident occurred at the property at 64 Ramblewood Drive, Ross Township, Monroe County. Unknown persons entered the property sometime between March 1 and 29. The property is owned by Sandra Kirby, 47, of Stroudsburg.

One person sustained a major injury and one driver is facing charges following a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 2:28 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, along SR209 at the bottom of Keffers Mountain in Porter Township.

Troopers said Melissa L. Karpulk, 34, of Tower City, and Mary B. Salada, 58, also of Tower City, were both northbound. Troopers said Karpulk attempted to pass Salada.

As she attempted to pass, Karpulk realized another vehicle was approaching in the opposite lane of travel.

Summit Hill police charged two individuals following separate incidents at the Lansford Townhouses.

According to police, on Feb. 24, at 10:50 a.m., officers received a call from the property manager at the townhouse complex, stating that there was drug paraphernalia in the apartment where Jeremey Tobin, 32, of 97 Quail Drive, Jim Thorpe, had been staying.

He was evicted from the property and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

In a second incident, police were called at 7:50 p.m., on March 11, for a disturbance at 301 Lansford Court.

Charges were filed against five area juveniles for various incidents that happened around Summit Hill over the last few months.

According to borough police, on Dec. 29, 2010, at 2:23 a.m., police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near a residence. Upon investigation, officers observed the vehicle drive by the place in question. Police attempted to stop the vehicle, driven by a 17-year-old Summit Hill female, but she did not immediately stop.

A Summit Hill woman was cited after she trespassed at an area residence.

According to Summit Hill police, officers received a report on March 17, from a resident at 243 E. Hazard St., stating that Ashley Orach, 25, of 10 S. Pine St., had been at the residence. Officers were advised that she was not to be at the home.

Orach was charged with simple trespass.
