State police at the Lehighton barracks will be conducting roving DUI patrols and a sobriety checkpoint the weekend of Aug. 19 throught 21 in Carbon and Monroe counties.

The operation is part of the state police Checkpoint Strike Force Initiative, station commander Brian J. Cawley announced. The operation is an effort to reduce the number of crashes, fatalities and injuries on state roads.

Tamaqua police are investigating the theft of gold jewelry, reported missing from a home on Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Lisa Dotter, 22, of 218 Orwigsburg St., called police after discovering that a gold necklace and a gold ring were missing from her home.

The items were discovered later that day in a Lehighton pawn shop.

Charges are pending.

Two Schuylkill County drivers were involved in crashes in Lehigh County in separate incidents.

State police at Fogelsville said a crash occurred about 12:16 p.m. on Aug. 11 along SR309 in Lynn Township. Troopers said John D. Kreiser, 64, of Lebanon, was stopped at a stop sign along SR143 at 309 while Deanna D. Dekle, 48, of New Ringgold, was southbound on 309. Troopers said Kreiser then pulled out into the path of Dekle. Dekle's 2001 Subaru Forester then struck Kreiser's 1999 Ford F-405 truck.

A one vehicle crash was probed along Intertate 80 in Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County.

State police at Fern Ridge said Angel M. Rush, 23, of East Stroudsburg, was drivng eastbound when his 2006 Kia Sorrento left the road and crashed into a tree.

Rush and passengers Allison M. Giambrone, 42, of East Stroudsburg, and Carrie A. Reinhart, 33, of Albrightsville, were injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

Troopers said Rush was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

A deer has been blamed for a crash in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Anthony Dombrosky, of Pottsville, was driving a 1993 Ford F-150 truck southbound on Moss Glen Road in Schuylkill Township, about 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, when a deer entered the road in front of him.

Dombrosky swerved his truck to the right to avoid the deer with the vehicle going onto the west berm. It went down a slight embankmetn for about 25 feet before striking a tree with the right front corner.

A Schuylkill County driver is facing several charges, including hit and run, following an incident that occurred about 11:05 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 222 Mahanoy St. (SR1005), in Nuremberg, North Union Township.

State police at Frackville said Zachary Johnson, 22, of Nuremberg, was driving a 1999 Saturn at the above location when it left the road and crashed into a parked vehicle. After the crash Johnson fled the scene on foot.

Two persons were cited for disorderly conduct by Kidder Township police earlier this month.

Police said Claudio Petruzziello, 28, of Scarsdale, N.Y., was cited after an incident that occurred at 1:20 a.m. Aug. 6 in the area of North and South Lake Drive, Lake Harmony, and Yalle Agbre, 31, of West Orange, N.J., was charged following an incident at 2:07 a.m. Aug. 7 in the parking lot of Shenanigans, Lake Harmony.

A Monroe County teen has been cited for criminal mischief.

State police at Lehighton said Craig Jerad Fussell, 18, of Kunkletown, has been charged for allegedly damaging the window on the car of Chaise Pedro Terrota, 19, no address given, using an air powered rifle. The incident occurred about 2 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at 103 Beltzville Drive, in Kresgeville.

Troopers added that a minor with with Fussell at the time of the incident.

State police at Frackville are investigating the theft of a mountian bike.

A 16-year-old male from the William Penn section of West Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County, reported his orange and silver Next Power X bike was removed from his residence sometime between 3:35 and 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. The bike is valued at $120.

Troopers are also probing the theft of a road sign. Troopers said a "slow down" sign owned by Middleport borough and located in the unit block of Washington St., was stolen sometime between midnight and 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14.

A Luzerne County woman was jailed in Schuylkill County following an incident that occurred about 4:55 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Schuylkillk Mall.

State police at Frackville said troopers went to the mall for a report of suspicious individuals in the Kmart store. One of the suspects was located at the McDonald's Restaurant. A NCIC check showed that the suspect had an active arrest warrant issued to the Luzerne County adult probation office.
