Senior center

The activities for the Panther Valley Senior Center have been announced by manager Fran Craigie.

For more information call the center at (570) 669-9930. Remember to sign in or call by 10 a.m. for the next day's meal.

Chair exercise is held at 10 a.m. on Mondays and Wii Dancercise is at 10 a.m. on Thursdays.

Monday, Feb. 1 is horse racing at 11 a.m. Line dancing is held on a Tuesday plus the Sunshine meeting after lunch.

Wednesday, Feb. 3 is pay bingo at 11 a.m.; Feb. 4 is penny game at 11 a.m.; Feb. 5 darts at 11 a.m.

Zion Lutheran Church

Morning worship will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday. In addition to the regular sermon, a children's sermon is presented each week. The Rev. John Hazel is pastor, (570) 635-3469. Visitors are always welcome.

Donna Trimmel, Lois Seip and Steve Romankow were elected to serve a three-year term on council at the congregational meeting last week. Installation of the new members will be held on Sunday.

There will be a brief meeting of church council immediately following the worship service this week.

Cadets of the Panther Valley JROTC "Panther Battalion" are hard at work in preparation of one of the biggest events this school year

On January 30, cadets will travel to Redland High School where they will participate in the League 7 drill team competition. The winners will then go on to participate in the Brigade drill competition. The Panther Valley Drill Team has won this competition for three consecutive years, and hope to make it a fourth.

SHCIO to meet

The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m. in the Summit Hill Borough Hall.

Debra Ranck, president, will be in charge of the meeting.

Legion to meet

The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.

A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.

PVHS All Night Party

Panther Valley All Night Party Committee will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 27 in the high school library at 7 p.m.

Just a reminder that this is a new date as the regular scheduled meeting for Jan. 20 had to be postponed due to Senior Financial Aid night.

All parents of seniors are encouraged to attend. All suggestions are welcomed.

The free monthly supper served by the Meed's Methodist Church will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The annual Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday immediately following the morning worship service.

Reports for 2009 will be presented and reviewed, the 2010 budget will be presented for adoption and an election will be held to fill three council positions.

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers have announced that they will not hold any meetings in January and February. The next meeting will be announced at a later date. The dues for 2010 will be increased to $3 a year.

The Summit Hill Food Pantry will distribute food on Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The senior commodity boxes arrive on Jan. 28, weather permitting, and the recipients will be called.

Summit Hill food pantry

The Summit Hill Food Pantry schedule for January is as follows. The packing date is Thursday, Jan. 21 at 9 a.m.

The distribution date is Tuesday, Jan. 26. Doors open at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Senior commodity boxes arrive on Thursday, Jan. 28, weather permitting. Recipients will be called.

The pantry is always in need of younger volunteers as most of the packers are age 75 and older.

The Lansford Food Pantry will be held on Jan. 18 at St. Katherine of Drexel's Church gymnasium from 9:30-11 a.m. The pantry is a nonprofit organization that serves the residents of Lansford on the third Monday of every month.
