Golden Agers

The next meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers will be an indoor picnic at St. Joseph's Hall in Summit Hill. A reminder to those who previously registered for the picnic that it starts at 1 p.m. Bingo and games will be played.

At the Aug. 9 meeting, 11 July and August birthday celebrants were recognized and seated around a table with a summer theme. Nancy Conzoneri and Martha Ciarvella did the decorating.

Happy Birthday was sung by the group. Alex Shereba sang his birthday greeting, wishing all many happy years. He was recognized for his 90 birthday

All night party reminder

Reminder for all parents/guardians: All Night Party raffle tickets are due by Aug. 15. Please drop off ticket stubs and money at Simply Something, 312 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.

Zion Lutheran Church

Morning worship begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday. In addition to the regular sermon, a children's message is presented each week.

There will be a brief meeting of council members immediately following the service on Sunday, Aug. 15.

Book bags will be blessed during the worship service on Sunday, Aug. 29.

All children and grandchildren of the parish and community are welcome to bring their book bags to be blessed.

Movie night

The C.H.O.S.E Recreation Organization of Coaldale held its meeting Monday, Aug. 9 with President Angela Krapf presiding.

Final plans were made for the third "Movie in the Park" on Friday, Aug. 20 at 7:30 p.m., to be held at the Sharpe/Raymer Park, 141 West High Street, Coaldale. There will be a movie for children up to 13 years of age.

Parents are asked to bring blankets or lawn chairs.

St. John's

At 7 p.m. each Wednesday St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief evening prayer.

Committee to meet

The Lansford Borough Facility Planning Committee meeting that was originally scheduled to be held this week has been rescheduled to Monday, Aug. 16, at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will be held at the Lansford Borough Office, 26 E. Patterson St.

Borough council

The monthly meeting of the Lansford Borough Council will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lansford Community Center. Bob Gaughan, president, will chair the session.

Summit Hill

Methodist Charge

The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Aug. 8, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.

The adult Sunday school will be held at 10 a.m. in the Coaldale church.

PV senior center

Fran Craigie, manager of the Panther Valley Senior Center in Nesquehoning has announced the list of activities for August

Beginning Aug. 2 there will be pay bingo at 11 a.m. Aug. 3 is line dancing in the morning and a Sunshine meeting later. Aug. 4 will be game of Pictionary at 11 a.m. Aug. 5 is penny game at 11 a.m. and off to Heisler's after lunch. Wii games will be played on Aug. 6

PV knee-hi

The PV Knee-Hi will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug 10 following practice at 8 p.m. at the Sports Zoo in Lansford.

Golden Agers

An inspirational message "A Different Way to View the Day" was read by Minnie Kennedy at the July 26 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers. The Pledge of Allegiance and singing of God Bless America followed. Irene Hudasky led the group singing with summer songs.

Welcomed back to the meetings were Martha Ciarvella and Murph Shigo. New member Palma Giglotti was introduced and welcomed.

Food distribution

The Summit Hill Food Pantry distributes food to the needy in the community on a monthly basis, with the deliveries usually taking place on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
