Touchdown Club

The Jim Thorpe Olympian Touchdown Booster Club will meet this evening at 6 o'clock in the high school auditorium. On the agenda will be the banquet preparations, 2014 golf tournament, sweat shirt fundraiser and the 2014 officers and committees.

Parents, guardians and friends of the football participants are invited to attend the monthly meetings.

Old Tyme Christmas

St. John's Lutheran Church, Sunday School, South Avenue, will present their Old Tyme Christmas celebration on Sunday, Dec. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The children will be presenting recitations, songs and the traditional Christmas pageant. All are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served following the program.

Toys for Tots registration

Registration for Carbon County residents for the annual Toys for Tots campaign will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23, at Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Frederick's Grove Road, Lehighton. This is the only location for registrations and no phone calls will be accepted.

The next registration dates will be Dec. 6-7 at the same location and times.

If you need information call Ed at 570-325-2408. There are several requirements that parents/guardians must follow to register.

The Jim Thorpe Public Service Department will be picking up the leaves from today through Friday, Nov. 22. Place the leaves out in the street for pick up and please do not bag them.

Open house

St. John's Lutheran Church, 6th and North streets, will hold an open house to welcome their new shared pastor, the Rev. Tony Pagatto. The event will take place at 11 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 24 following the morning worship service.

Bible study

The Women's Ecumenical Bible study will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue. Joan DeAcetis is the leader and the club is studying the Gospel of Mark.

Halloween party

St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, held its annual Halloween party for the children of the Sunday School. There were 50 children in attendance to enjoy fun, games and refreshments. Prizes were awarded to the following: most original, Colton Steigerwalt; prettiest, Vlana Nieves; spookiest, Aidan Sterling; funniest, Riley McFayden; and judges choice, Asher Huffakker.

Judges for the evening were Will Rodgers, Jenny Angstead and Heike Hartman.

Veterans to behonored on Oct. 5

Jim Thorpe Little League will be honoring the area's veterans on Saturday, Oct. 5 at McGarvey's Field during a double-header of fall baseball. All veterans are welcome to attend and will receive a free hot dog and drink. The ceremony will start at 6 p.m. with the unveiling of a new sign that honors veterans, the ceremonial first pitch and photos with the baseball players. Members of the Jim Thorpe High School class of 1964 will hold their monthly luncheon on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Penn's Peak, at noon. Members of the 50th reunion committee are asked to please meet by 11:30 to discuss some issues with the reunion.

Clothing give-away

St. John's Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave., will begin their 2013 free clothing giveaway on Thursday, Aug. 2 and it will run through Saturday, Aug. 17. Days and times are as follows; Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you wish more information call the church office at (570) 325-4255 and leave a message; someone will return your call.

Clothing drive

St. John's Lutheran Church, 319 South Ave., is in the process of collecting new, clean and slightly used clothing and shoes. The items may be dropped off at the church Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Wednesday, 6-8 p.m.

The clothing will be given away beginning Thursday, Aug. 2 and ends Saturday, Aug. 17. The times are as follows: Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
