Slatington Crime Watch

The Slatington Crime Watch will hold a Christmas Open House from 7-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, in the borough hall board room.

The open house will replace the group's monthly meeting. Light refreshments will be available.

Slatington Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will hold a board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, at the Skeet Club.

High school bloodmobile results

Thirty-four potential donors registered for the Miller-Keystone bloodmobile at Palmerton Area High School on Dec. 2, where 21 units of blood were collected.

Assisting at the high school were the following National Honor Society members: Blake Campbell, Jilian Farkas, Elizabeth Hahn, William Heinick, Lyndsey Heinrick, Amber Hettler, Brianna Hoglen, Megan Mummey, Kaitlin Reimer, Kristen Romano, Abigail Storm and Derek Szena.

Artist of the month

Mrs. Scholl, art teacher at East Penn and Franklin elementary schools awards an "Artist of the Month" for each grade.

Franklin Artists of the Month for November are: kindergarten, Robert Ohl; first grade, Ian Werner; second grade, Jonathan Macsay; third grade, Karissa Hough; fourth grade, Isabelle Meckes.

East Penn Artists of the Month for November are: kindergarten, Craig Frantz; first grade, Collin Wentz; second grade, Nicole Serbel; third grade, Samantha Miller and fourth grade, Gabriela Szozda.

Holiday music

The Tamaqua Area High School Music Department will present its' annual holiday music concert Thursday in the school auditorium. Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. with the program set to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Lansford

Christmas concert

The students at Our Lady of the Angels Academy band, Lansford, will present a Christmas concert on Friday, Dec. 10, at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford.

Family, friends and guests are invited to attend.

To entertain seniors

Members of the Panther Valley Golden Age Club will be entertained by students from Our Lady of the Angels, Academy, Lansford, at their next meeting on Monday, Dec. 13.

Blue Christmas service

St. Matthew's UCC will hold a Blue Christmas Service on Monday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. with communion.

Secret Sister luncheon

St. Matthew's will have its Secret Sister luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. If you are already a member, be sure to come and bring a covered dish. If you would like to be a member, also come and join up for next year. You do not have to be a member of the church.

The Lutheran WELCA group will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave. For more information contact Kathy Heller, (570) 325-2282. Following the meeting, the group will be making holiday gift bags for the shut-ins.

Touchdown Club

A meeting for parents, grandparents and friends of the Jim Thorpe football program will be held on Monday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. Election of officers for the Touchdown Club will be held at the meeting, as well as the planning of the awards ceremony.

VFW party

The annual Christmas party of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Lengyel's Restaurant.

Those planning to attend should contact Maureen Hirochek at (570) 669-9578 as soon as possible to make their reservations. Deadline for reservations is Dec. 10.

A brief business meeting will be held before dinner, with President Amanda Breiner presiding.

First gift

New Life Assembly of God Church will again sponsor a "First Gift" campaign to provide local children with a brighter holiday during difficult economic times. Organizers are currently accepting donations from area merchants, businesses and generous citizens.

The program will be held Dec. 10 at the church. Each child will receive gift bags filled with toys, candy and other donated items. There will also be cookies and hot chocolate available.
