Garden club

The South Schuylkill Garden Club will meet Oct. 19, at 6:30 p.m., at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Dock Street, Schuylkill Haven. The evening will include a presentation from members of the Frog Hollow Environmental Center Board of Directors Linda Collins, Ann Irving, Shirley McCord, Helen Moyer and Jeanne Zulich. Frog Hollow's 28 acres of native woods and wetlands, located west of Friedensburg, is managed by the South Schuylkill Garden Club with the help of the Elsie Krammes Trust Fund.

Summit Hill

Heritage center

The Summit Hill Heritage Center, formerly St. Paul United Church of Christ, is in need of several "wish list" items, including: plastic cutting boards (medium size), dish towels, dish cloths, shovels, brooms, a ladder, a mat for the narthex and a computer, printer and copier.

Pleasant Valley Intermediate School's 5th grade will be hosting a MYFN from 3:45-6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 15 in the school's cafeteria.

Pleasant Valley School District hosts a monthly meeting of educators, parents, students, and community members to discuss and plan for programs and activities to promote a knowledge and acceptance of diversity.

Bloodmobile results

Miller-Keystone Blood Center's Oct. 7 community visit at the First United Church of Christ drew 65 potential donors, and 61 units of blood were collected.

This visit was sponsored by the Concourse Club.

The following donors reached gallon levels: Delbert Eckhart, 20 gallons; Delphin George and James Shafer, 5 gallons each; Betty Furler, 4 gallons; Richard Bachert and William Hayes, 2 gallons each.

Monroe County Seniors will meet at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 13, and Friday, Oct. 15, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville. The topic for the 15th is "Smile-Attitude Counts," presented by Prime Time's Kate Koehler.

LALLC Halloween Spooktacular

A Halloween Spooktacular will be held for children 12 and under who attend Lehighton Area School District, from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Lehighton Youth Center. There will be awards for costumes, games, candy and treats. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free, but everyone is asked to bring a pair of used eyeglasses. can of food, or pet item. The event is being sponsored by Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club. Senior news

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met last week with 76 members in attendance. President Jean Machamer conducted the business session.

Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Let Me Serve." Reports were offered by secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld, treasurer Dolores Walck and Vice President Doris Brobst. President Machamer provided updates on upcoming trips to Shady Maple, area dinner theaters and several shows. She also provided several readings.

Fire Company meeting

Members of the Phoenix Fire Company will meet this evening, Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at the company headquarters. Nomination of officers for next year will take place during the meeting.

Tire collection

Tire collection in the borough will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon. at Memorial Park. All tires must be off the rims. If you have any questions, call the borough office, at (570) 325-2781.

Halloween parade

If you would like to participate in the Eldred Township Halloween Parade, Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. you are asked to preregister by Sunday, Oct. 17. This is open to the public and free of charge. You are asked to bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to the PVEN food bank in place of a registration fee.

There are prizes for costumes: Most original; cutest; ugliest, best pair; best group; best float.
