Basket Bingo to benefit community programs of Lehighton Rotary Club

Lehighton Rotary Club will host their inaugural Longaberger Basket and Pottery Bingo on Saturday, November 3 at Mahoning Valley Ambulance Hall. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and games begin at 1 p.m. All proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit the community programs of Lehighton Rotary Club.

Bingo will consist of 20 games and four specials. In addition, there will be a Chinese Auction and door prizes. Food and drinks will be available for purchase through Mahoning Valley Ambulance Association.Those who come dressed in a Halloween costume will receive one free special."This fundraiser is very important for our club," said Lehighton Rotary Club President Michael Heery. "It is one way that enables us to help make the world a better place by starting right here 'in our own backyard.'"Community programs of Lehighton Rotary Club include distributing dictionaries to all third grade students in both Lehighton and Palmerton Area School Districts; the annual Community Easter Egg Hunt and Collection for the Community Food Pantry; donating scales to Blue Mountain Health System for patients in the Visiting Nurses' Program who need this assistance; the annual Essay Contest for Lehighton Area High School students that reinforces the importance of community service; presenting scholarships to LAHS students to attend RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly - to develop and strengthen leadership skills; and forming an Interact Club at LAHS that is designed to help enhance students' leadership skills, personal integrity, and respect for all.Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide. SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Longaberger Basket Consultant Connie Cuellar was guest speaker at a recent meeting of Lehighton Rotary Club. A member of Longaberger's "Million Dollar Club," she helped the Rotarians in organizing their inaugural Longaberger Basket and Pottery Bingo.
