Hit-and-run investigated

State police at Frackville are investigating a hit-and-run crash that was reported around 7:40 a.m. on Saturday along Route 309, the Mile Hill, in Kline Township, a half-mile south of the Interstate 81 interchange.

Troopers said Thomas Dempsey, 44, of West Hazleton, was driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra southbound and attempted to pass another vehicle. While in the process of completing the pass, the other vehicle struck the guide rail on the right berm, then bounced back onto the roadway with the left front area of the vehicle striking the right front area of the Elantra. This impact sent both vehicles into a slide/skid and both vehicles careened across the two northbound lanes. The Elantra slid into a ditch off the east shoulder while the other vehicle was able to stop on the roadway.

The operator of the other vehicle then fled the scene southbound and it is believed that the vehicle turned onto Main Street toward Quakake. The striking vehicle should have damage to the right side from hitting the guide rail and on the left side from striking the Elantra.

Dempsey was not injured but the Elantra sustained heavy damage to the front end and fender.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-874-5300.
