Schuylkill County local election results

Schuylkill County voters in the Tamaqua area selected candidates for various borough councils, township supervisors and tax collectors on Tuesday.

The picking was very light as there were very few challenges for the nominations of the major parties and the total county turnout of voters support that notion as only about 21 percent of eligible voters turned out Tuesday.Here are the result of local races.CoaldaleThere were no races in Coaldale.There are three seats, four-year terms, up on council. On the GOP side there were three candidates led by Anne Girard with 125 votes followed by Joel Johnson, 78. Harry R. Hontz Jr., who recently died, received 65 votes. Angela Krapf was the lone Democrat, and got 72 votes. There were 55 write-in votes on the Democrat side.Democrat Catherine M. Papesh got 97 token votes for tax collector as she was unopposed with no Republican candidate. There were 18 GOP write-in votes.New RinggoldThere were no races in this borough.Democrat John Belsak was the lone candidate for mayor and got 13 votes. There were 12 write-ins on the GOP side.Two seats on council, four-year terms, had Democrat Roger Freed getting 12 votes and Republican Jason Gradwell with 21. They were the only candidates. There were not enough write-ins on either side for anyone else to get a nomination.Republican Corriann Myers got 23 unopposed votes for tax collector and there was no Democratic candidate and not enough write-ins.MiddleportIn Middleport there are three seats on council, four-year terms, up for election. On the Democratic side John R. DiFilippo Jr. got 23 votes and Joseph A. Rolenaitis got 20 with 20 write-ins. On the GOP side the lone candidate was Wendy Dempsey with 15 votes and there were 12 write-ins.Republican John Leshko got 17 votes for mayor with no Democrat seeking the position and not enough write-ins cast. Democrat Marian Donlin got 37 votes of tax collector with no GOP candidate and not enough write-in votes.New PhiladelphiaThere are four seats on borough council, four-year terms, up for election in the fall with just two Democrats filing and no Republicans. There is also a two-year term seat with no candidates.For the four-year term the Democrats had Elizabeth Benulis with 77 votes and Christine Carey with 68. There were 21 write-ins on the GOP side.Incumbent Democratic Mayor Frances C. Tkach was unopposed and got 79 votes. There were no GOP candidate but there were 21 write-ins.For tax collector Democrat Robert J. Frantz got 92 unopposed votes and there were no Republicans and not enough write-ins.McAdooIn McAdoo there are three, four-year terms, seats up on council. On the Democratic side three people filed and will be on the ballot in the fall. They are Peter P. Minneci, 104 votes; John J. Shigo, 103; and Clara Preputnick, 93. One Republican ran, Edward J. Bielen Sr., who got 95 votes. There were 76 write-ins.For mayor Democrat Robert S. Wills was unopposed and got 98 votes with no Republican filing but there were 77 write-in votes.For tax collector, Democrat Andrew T. DeBalko got 114 unopposed votes with no Republican filing but there were 59 write-in votes.West Penn TownshipIn West Penn Township there was a race for the Republican nomination for a six-year term as supervisor. Randy Troxell defeated Dave Frederick, 69 votes to 62. There were 342 write-in votes. On the Democratic side Lawrence J. Stival got 58 unopposed votes.Republican Helene V. Zeigler got 448 votes for tax collector. There were no other candidates and not enough write-ins on the Democratic side.Walker TownshipIn Walker Township there were no races. Here are the vote results.Supervisor, six-year term, Republican Craig P. Wagner got 101 votes; no Democrat filed and not enough write-ins. Supervisor, two-year term, Democrat Christine M. Troxell got 18 votes; no Republican filed but there were 21 write-ins.Republican Diane Yvonne Malay got 115 votes for tax collector. She was the lone candidate for the position.Rush TownshipThere were no races in Rush Township.Republican Incumbent Jeaninne Motroni got 200 votes for supervisor, six-year term; and there was no Democratic candidate but 12 write-ins were cast.For tax collector, Republican Michelle Kabilko got 236 votes with no Democratic candidate, but there were 16 write-ins.Kline TownshipNo races in Kline.Republican Matthew P. Corra Sr. got four votes for supervisor, six-year term; no Democratic candidate and not enough write-ins. Same is true for tax collector where Republican Stephen J. Sheer got four votes, not enough Democratic write-ins.Delano TownshipNo races in Delano Township.Jay Ryan got the Democratic nod for supervisor, six-year term, with 39 votes; no GOP candidate and not enough write-ins.Ann Pascavage got the Democratic nod for tax collector with 37 votes; and no GOP candidate and not enough write-ins.Ryan TownshipNo races in Ryan Township.David R. Morgan got 147 Republican votes for six-year term supervisor; no Democratic candidate and not enough write-ins. Democrat Mary Peca got 97 votes for tax collector with no GOP candidate but 21 write-in votes.
