North Carbon County seniors lead after first day

With one day of competition complete, North Carbon County seniors are leading during the 2019 Carbon County Senior Games with a combined score of 129.

But who will capture the Commissioners’ Cup? Will it be returning champions South Carbon County, which is made up of Lehighton and Palmerton seniors, or will the title go back to the North, which consists of Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe and Weatherly? Only time will tell.

Senior Games officials report that Panther Valley has 52; Jim Thorpe, 57; and Weatherly, 20, while Lehighton’s score for the day is 83 and Palmerton has a score of 30, bringing the combined team’s score to 113.

With a close race starting to form, it’s anybody’s guess who will be this year’s top dog.

The first-day events included shuffleboard and cornhole toss.

A point system is attached to each medal. Gold represents five points; silver, three points; and bronze, one point.
