Tamaqua senior high hosts spring concert

The Tamaqua Senior High School Vocal Music Department will present its annual "Spring Choral Program" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will feature performances by the High School Concert Choir and the Jazz & Concert Chorale.

The Concert Choir will open the concert with "I Will Lift My Voice and Sing" by Victor Johnson.The American folk classic "Simple Gifts" arranged by Carl Strommen will be the next selection. "Let My People Go (Go Down Moses)," a rousing spiritual arranged by Roger Emerson, closes the first set of the program.The Jazz & Concert Chorale will sing a wide variety of musical styles and selections, beginning with a Greg Gilpin arrangement of "I Hear a Voice a Praying." The Leonard Cohen song "Hallelujah" is the chorale's next selection.The women of the chorale will then sing "Take Me Home," a song made popular by the a cappella pop sensation Pentatonix, while the men of the chorale will sing a doo-wop classic "Stand By Me." The swinging jazz classic "Route 66" will close the Jazz Chorale's set.Students from the Schuylkill County Chorus Festival will open the second half of the program by singing "The Road Home" by Stephen Paules. The jazz ballad "When I Fall in Love" will then be sung by the District 10 Chorus Festival students.The Concert Choir will return to the stage to sing "Seasons of Love" from the Broadway smash musical "Rent."The concert comes to a close with the inspirational Lori McKenna song "Humble and Kind" made famous by country superstar Tim McGraw.The accompanists for the choirs are Antonetta Gerace, George Hegedus and Faith Roberts. The choirs are under the direction of John D. Buglio.Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children and senior citizens.Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m.
