Student budgeting workshop coming up

First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union is reaching out to the community by holding an interactive workshop called Mad City Money. There will be three sessions at various branch locations: April 11 at 6 p.m. at its Allentown Branch, 450 Union Boulevard; April 18 at 6 p.m. at its Bethlehem Branch, 257 Brodhead Road; and April 25 at 6 p.m. at its Easton Branch, 4300 William Penn Highway.

High school students (ages 15-18) are encouraged to participate in this workshop, where they experience real-life financial situations. Each student will receive an "about me" sheet that contains an occupation and salary, student loan debt owed, credit card debt owed and cost of medical insurance. Some participants will have a spouse, and some will be single; all will be parents. Students build a monthly budget based on their income. They select housing, transportation, food, day care and other needs. Just as in real life, students have unexpected windfalls and unplanned expenses. The workshop is being offered for free, but advanced registration is required due to limited seating. Interested individuals can register online at

www.firstcomcu.org/seminars or by calling 610-821-2400, ext. 6777.
