Schuylkill OKs housing funding

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday approved six Schuylkill County Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board 2017 funding recommendation totaling $102,692.

The requests originally would have come to $183,000, exceeding the available amount of funding.The projects are Schuylkill Community Action, $12,500 for the Schuylkill Housing Counseling Program; Schuylkill Women In Crisis, $12,500 for Section 8 and project-based voucher housing project; Schuylkill Community Action, $36,615 for Schuylkill County Housing Repair for senior citizens and disabled people; the borough of St. Clair, $10,000 for the St. Clair Housing Rehabilitation Program; the city of Pottsville, $10,000 for the Pottsville Housing Rehab Program; and the Schuylkill County Housing Authority, $21,077 for the Minersville high rise kitchens and Ashland high rise boiler replacement.In other matters Wednesday, commissioners approved increasing the cap on a contract with McClure by $2,000 for ongoing energy evaluation.Commissioners also approved a $3,060 increase to the cap of a $99,626 contract with Midwest Casualty Company for excess workers compensation.The increase brings the new cap to $102,686.Also, commissioners approved a request from elections chief Frannie Brennan to move canvassing and computation from Nov. 10, to Nov. 13, because Nov. 11 is Veteran's Day, and staff have the day off.
