N. Lehigh approves budgets

Northern Lehigh School Board this month approved its share of budgets for institutions it sponsors.

The 2017-18 Lehigh Carbon Community College budget. LCCC's sponsor contribution budget calls for total expenditures of $6,186,337, which represents no change over the 2016-17 budget. The district's share of the total budget is $197,196, a decrease of $8,488.The Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit Operational and Program Service budget. The CLIU's total expenditures are $3,212,643, which represents an increase of $78,510 over the 2016-17 budget. The district's share is proposed to be $19,785, which calls for an increase of $7 from the 2016-17 budget.The Lehigh Career & Technical Institute general fund budget. LCTI's total is $26,259,100, which represents an increase of $651,800. The district's portion of the 2017-18 general fund budget is $904,889, a decrease of $8,188. The expenditures for the Academic Center budget for the period of July 1, 2017, through June 30, 2018, total $1,746,300, or an increase of $88,800. There is no cost to the district for the Academic Center budget.In other action, the board approved:• The retirement of Robert Kroboth from his position as high school middle shift custodian, effective Jan. 31, 2018. According to the contract, custodial/maintenance employees who have worked for the district more than 20 years and give notice to the district of retirement 12½ months before their retirement date will receive an additional $500 upon retirement. Kroboth will retire at that time with 27 years of service to the district.• The resignation of Kris Ahner, high school transitional learning support teacher, effective at the end of the 2016-17 school year.• Sarah Fink as Slatington Elementary School fourth-grade teacher, replacing an employee on family medial leave, at the substitute teacher rate days 1-30, Day 31 and beyond $46,875 prorated, effective on or about Feb. 21, with a termination date on or about May 12.• Dakota Miller and Scott Valentine as districtwide temporary vacancy replacement permanent substitute teachers for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year, at a daily per diem rate of $120, along with district health benefits.• Kelsey Follweiler as substitute secretary/aide for the 2016-17 school year at the 2016-17 substitute rate.• Matthew Davis and Robyn Pristash as game workers for the 2016-17 school year.• Michele Dotta to attend the PDE Conference 2017 Making a Difference: Educational Practices that Work!, March 9-10 at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center in Hershey, with the cost of registration $139; lodging, $143; meals, $33; and travel, $83, for a total cost of $398, to be paid for from the district's Special Education budget.• Lynn Haab to attend the PSEA 2017 Special Education Conference, March 3-4 at the Omni Bedford, Spring Resorts in Bedford, with the cost of registration $30; and travel, $197; for a total cost of about $227, to be funded by the district's Curriculum & Instruction budget.• Sherri Molitoris to attend the 31st Annual PASPA Conference: War Stories II, The Battle Continues, March 1-3 at the Harrisburg-Hershey Sheraton Hotel in Harrisburg, with the cost of registration $645; lodging, $198; and travel, $91; for a total cost of about $933, to be funded from the district's Business Office budget.• Krystle-Dawn Tiedeman permission to attend the Pennsylvania Excellence in eLearning Forum, March 16-17 at Sands Resort, Bethlehem, at no cost to the district.• Field trip request by the high school Spanish Club to go to New York City, New York, on March 30, to be funded by the Spanish Club students.• High school Senior Class Trip to Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, New Jersey, May 26, to be funded by students of the Class of 2017.• A request by the National Honor Society to go to Ellis Island, New York City, New York, June 2, to be funded by students of the National Honor Society.
