Upcoming BMHS programs

Blue Mountain Health System will offer two programs next month. Register for either at 610-377-7070.

BMHS and Arden Courts Memory Care Community will co-sponsor a free, four-week Lunch & Learn program on dementia. The first session will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Bowmanstown Medical Plaza, 512 Bank St. in Bowmanstown. Lunch, sponsored by Arden Courts, will be included.Attorney Gail Weiner-Shearer, will discuss living wills and durable powers of attorney for health care - the two basic documents that will give your family clear, written direction about your end-of-life wishes. It's wise to prepare both documents so you can direct your own medical care if something would happen to you because of illness, accident or advanced age.If you don't write down your wishes about the kinds of treatment you do or don't want to receive and name someone you trust to oversee your care, these matters could wind up in the hands of estranged family members, doctors, or even judges, who may know little about what you would prefer. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 9 BMHS offers a Holiday Lunch and Learn Arts & Crafts Event to alleviate stress at the holidays at Blue Mountain Bowmanstown Medical Plaza, 512 Bank St., Bowmanstown.Making gifts saves money and adds meaning during the holidays. A recent report by CNN found that crafting can be of help to people who suffer from anxiety or depression. When we're being creative, our brains release dopamine, a natural anti-depressant, and the process of working with one's hands focuses the mind, eases stress and can increase happiness.Art therapist, Kathy Karanink, will guide you through step-by-step projects you can create that day as well as projects you can make at home. A fee of $20 per person includes lunch, refreshments, educational session and supplies (or, bring some of your own supplies, including scissors and a glue gun).Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.
