Franklin benefit softball game postponed

The Russell "Bups" Ahner Memorial Old-Timers Softball Game in Franklin Township has been rescheduled from today to 6 p.m. Monday at Phifer Ice Dam Park in Franklin Township.

The event will benefit Franklin Elementary student Callen Walck, who has Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

The hereditary disorder affects one in 2,500 Americans.

"It's recognized through the Muscular Dystrophy Association," said Callen's mother, Jamie.

"Basically, his muscles are fine, but the nerves throughout his nervous system are not sending the messages properly to his muscles," she said.

"So over time his motor skills will deteriorate. It's a very slow progressing form of muscular dystrophy."

Wayne Wentz, who helps organize the game, said the children are selected in consultation with nurses at the respective schools.
