Mahoning Township will undergo road repair throughout the summer season.

Fritz Valley Road Bridge will be under construction in early summer, leaving Willow Drive closed during the repair.Construction of the bridge will result in a detour that will include the Fritz Valley and Church Hill roads' intersection."Didn't we say we wanted to vacate Willow Drive, about the last 250 feet of it," said Mahoning Township Supervisor Bruce Steigerwalt."We need some sort of description of what we are vacating, a type of map," said Mahoning Solicitor Thomas Nanovic."If that's the case I'm in favor of closing it during construction and seeing what it takes to vacate the road while it's closed," said Franklin Ruch, board vice-chairman."I think we have to have a public meeting. We wanted to vacate Long Hollow Road too. There's only one person at the end of it," Steigerwalt said.Steigerwalt informed the board about the four top-priority roads in the township that need repair and tar and chipping."We have Laural, Fredericks Grove, Meadow Brook, and Grist Mill roads," he said.Steigerwalt told the board Ashtown Road could be added to the list as an alternative or if there are additional funds from liquid fuels after the top priority roads are put out to bid. Steigerwalt gave the board an estimate for the road repairs by comparing surrounding town construction prices."I'd bid the $36,000 and have Ashtown as an optional for the bid. After the first four if we have funding maybe we want to do Ashtown," said Steigerwalt."Where we have the problem is the edge of the roads where water gets stuck and breaks-up the road. It's a drainage issue," he said. "We need our culverts deeper.""I'd take the one in best shape and start there before they do the tar and chip. Start on the one that will be quicker to repair," said supervisor Shawn Haggerty.According to Steigerwalt, Ashtown Road would be the easiest place to start as it is in the best shape of the five roads in disrepair. "Laurel is the worst," he said.
