Palmerton official addresses rumors

A rumor about the employment status of Palmerton High School Principal Paula Husar is just that, Palmerton Superintendent Scot Engler said Wednesday.

An online petition to keep Husar, started by David Schwartz, surfaced last week and has since been supported by more than 540 people. The petition includes a statement that the district started an “improvement plan.”“We understand there are a lot of rumors flying around, but Paula Husar remains an employee of the Palmerton Area School District and the principal of our high school,” Engler said.Schwartz said Wednesday morning though he hasn’t spoken to Husar regarding the situation, he “caught wind” of a plan to remove her, which is why he started the petition. In a follow-up post, Schwartz indicated that the information cited in the petition was coming from “people in the educational system and Husar.”“Paula has made so many positive changes to PAHS and will continue to do so,” Schwartz said in the petition.“She is an upstanding leader and has brought an environment of education the school has never seen. She is honest, forthright and fair. She addressed many concerns that I have had in a fair and positive manner for both teacher and student. It’s time we show support for her and keep the High School Principal of the Palmerton Area School District.”Schwartz and others plan to deliver the petition to the school board at its meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the administration building.Husar served as principal of the junior high school from June 18, 2012, to August 2013, when she was assigned as principal of the high school. She came to Palmerton after five years as a middle school principal in the Chichester School District.Attempts to reach Husar were unsuccessful.
