Galen Glen Winery wins double gold

Galen Glen Winery's 2013 Stone Cellar Reserve Grüner Veltliner received double gold in Australia at The Six Nations Wine Challenge.

"It's like winning the Olympics of wine," said Galen Troxell upon receiving the results of the win.His statement highlights the true challenge in this competition, because the wines are exclusively entered by "invitation only."Each judge selects the 100 best wines to represent his country.Judge Bob Campbell of New Zealand said, "Because the wines are all selected by each of the judges, the standard wine quality must surely be higher than any competition of this size in the world."This competition has six judges from six nations, including Argentina, Australia, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States.According to the Association of Australian Boutique Winemakers, manager of the challenge, the objective of the challenge is to discover the "new world champions."The judging takes place in August and the winners were announced Oct. 7 at Manjits at the Wharf, a restaurant overlooking Sydney harbor.Galen Glen Winery was awarded a double-gold medal (unanimous judge decision) in the "Aromatic, Non-Riesling" class for its 2013 Stone Cellar Reserve Grüner Veltliner. This honor is especially poignant as the Troxells pioneered planting Grüner Veltliner in the U.S., east of the Rockies, in 2003.Sarah Troxell said, "This is our first win in a competition held abroad. Our winegrowing crew deserves an acknowledgment for growing 'trophy grapes.'"Galen Glen Winery is located at 255 Winter Mountain Drive in Andreas. It is the only winery listed by Zagat in the "Top Ten Reasons to Drive to the Lehigh Valley." The winery was recently named "Best Winery-Pennsylvania" by the New York International Wine Competition in Manhattan.Visit
