Jim Thorpe woman fights rare cancer

Chelsea Green-Lapp is fighting for her life.

The 25-year-old Jim Thorpe resident was recently diagnosed with stage 4 endometrial stromal sarcoma cancer, one of the rarest types of uterine cancer that affect the reproductive organs."I started having lower abdominal pains and irregular menstrual cycles in April," she said via email. "I became concerned so I went to the doctor."After a number of tests, including an MRI, CT scan, blood work and biopsy, Chelsea learned she had cancer."The cancer I have is rare," she noted, saying that she believes there are about 22 cases of this type of cancer over the past decade. "The youngest (woman) they said was 46, so I am now the youngest (with this type of cancer)."Doctors believe the cancer started in Chelsea's uterus approximately four months earlier, but because of the aggressive nature of this type, has since spread to her lungs. In addition, over 40 tumors have grown and blood clots have formed.Chelsea is currently undergoing chemotherapy to see if it helps."The hardest part for me is losing my hair," she said.Through all of this, Chelsea has had a great support team that has helped hold her up when she was going through tough moments.She commends her husband of just under two years, James, as well as her family and friends.Ways to helpA GoFundMe account has been set up to help offset the rising medical bills for Chelsea's treatment. Tickets are available for $8 a person in advance by calling 570-778-8287 or 570-657-1114 or at the door the day of the event.In addition, an account, Chelsea Green-Lapp Cancer Fund, has been set up at the Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank."I would like to let all the young girls out there know that if they are having any problems, tell someone and get checked early," she said.
