Firefighters subdue smoke

A wood-burning stove caused smoke to billow from the chimney of a single home in Lehighton Monday evening.

However, no damage was done to the home at 340 N. First St., as concerned passers-by stood on the street to observe the smoke.Lehighton Fire Department responded to the home at 8:20 p.m. and smoke could be seen billowing from the chimney.Borough Fire Chief Patrick Mriss said the smoke stemmed from whatever was used to start a wood burner inside the home.Mriss said several people were inside the home at the time of the incident. There were no injuries, he said.It only took firefighters a brief amount of time to subdue the smoke.Also assisting at the scene were Lehighton Fire Police and Lehighton Police Department.
