Palmerton receives playground donation

Palmerton's downtown park will be refurbished with new playground equipment courtesy of a borough recreation group.

Members of the Pace-Makers Association of Palmerton presented a check in the amount of $11,135 to borough council this week for a new tot lot play structure.Councilman Jason Behler, who accepted the donation from the organization, told the group, which had about 20 members in attendance, that the borough was extremely thankful for the donation.In November, council agreed to apply to the Pace-Makers Association for the grant. The organization raises funds for recreation purposes.The current playground equipment in the park was installed in the mid-1990s.Borough Manager Rodger Danielson previously said the equipment had begun to deteriorate over the years.Water leakAlso on Thursday, Danielson said the borough's public works department is looking for a potential water leak in the Residence Park area, specifically north of Columbia Avenue from Second to Fifth street."We seem to be pumping extra water in that area," Danielson said. "It's not an extreme amount, but it's definitely an uptick in water pumping."Danielson said anyone who lives in that area that notices a change in their water pressure should notify the borough.The distribution of the borough's new recycling containers continues to go well, Danielson said.The borough still has more containers available, and that residents who would like some should bring their coupon that they received with their utility billing in to the borough office.In other business, council agreed to hire Andrew Krawchuck as a part-time crossing guard at a salary of $10 per hour.
