Franklin Township garage destroyed

Firefighters from five companies on Saturday quickly conquered a fire that destroyed a Franklin Township garage.

The garage, next to a home at 867 Main Road, caught fire at about 11 a.m. Carbon County dispatchers said they could hear someone screaming for a fire extinguisher during the 911 call.Firefighters from Franklin Township, Parryville, Lehighton, Aquashicola and Lower Towamensing Township quickly converged on the scene and had the fire extinguished within 15 minutes, said assistant Franklin Township Fire Chief Lynn Diehl.The blaze was contained quickly enough to prevent surrounding grass from igniting. April is a peak brush fire month in Pennsylvania.Lehighon Ambulance was at the scene, but there were no injuries.Diehl said the cause has yet to be determined.
