Weatherly Area School District will host the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association Elementary Band Fest for this region on May 1. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the middle school gym, 602 Sixth St., Weatherly.

Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend. There will be a small admission charge.The band and orchestra will consist of fifth- and sixth-grade students from throughout Carbon, Schuylkill and Berks counties.Host musical directors Amanda Derr and Shannon Shughart have been working with Weatherly Area School District and the other schools involved for several months to plan this event.The students will arrive in Weatherly early that morning and rehearse together throughout the day. The Weatherly Area Band Parents Organization will assist in the day's preparations.The orchestra will be conducted by Ronald DeGrandis while the band will be under the direction of guest conductor Brian Shughart.
