Winifred Emma (Mulhern) Woods, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community is celebrating her 92nd birthday.

Nicknamed "Winkie," she was born in West Hazleton on April 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Winifred and Daniel Mulhern of West Hazleton.She graduated from Weatherly Area High School in 1940. She then attended McCann's School of Business for stenography and later began working in the Hazleton National Bank building for A. Sterling Learn, CPA. Sterling and Winkie later married in 1945. They were married for 42 years until his death in 1987.Winkie then met and married Walter Woods on Nov. 12, 1994. They were married for 20 years until his recent death in January 2015. Before moving to Heritage Hill, the couple traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and abroad.Winkie has three children, Thomas J. Learn of Palmyra, New York; William Learn of LeLand, North Carolina; and A. Sterling Learn, who is deceased. She has seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.She was a member of the choir at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (formerly St. Nicholas Church) in Weatherly. She was also a member of a bowling league in Hazleton.
