Senate confirms Schuylkill officials

The state Senate on Tuesday confirmed Ann Dudish as recorder of deeds and Thomas Campion as clerk of courts in Schuylkill County.

Dudish steps in to take the place of her late husband, A. Matthew Dudish.Campion replaces Stephen Lukach, who retired in April after fiscal improprieties were discovered in his office. No charges have been filed against him.Gov. Tom Corbett on Aug. 22 nominated Dudish and Campion to their posts. The swearing-in ceremony has tentatively been set for Friday. Both come well-qualified. Dudish has held a variety of financial controller positions over the past 30 years and most recently served as controller for the Anthracite Abstract Company and Murphy Jewelers.Campion is a lawyer at Lipkin, Marshall, Bohorad & Thornburg. Campion served as a Schuylkill County assistant district attorney and is a certified public accountant."These two qualified individuals will serve Schuylkill County well," state Sen David G. Argall, R-29, said. "These two vacancies were created in very different situations, each important to the people of Schuylkill County."Pennsylvania law states that appointments to vacant offices must be of the same political party as the previous office holder. The governor nominates the appointments, who must be confirmed by the Senate."These two individuals were highly recommended to me on a bipartisan basis by residents throughout the county," Argall said.Dudish died on June 26 after a monthslong battle with pulmonary fibrosis."Matt was a hard-worker and consensus builder. His passing was felt throughout the county and across political parties. I am confident Ann can step into her new role and continue Matt's legacy as a dedicated public servant," Argall said. The financial irregularities in the clerk's office were revealed in March by county Controller Christy Joy. They are being investigated by the FBI, state police, the U.S. Attorney General and county District Attorney Christine Holman. "Schuylkill County needed someone who could remove the cloud over the Clerk of Courts office," Argall said."Tom was the unanimous, bipartisan choice who we believe will serve Schuylkill County well in his new capacity. Tom pledged to the Senate that he would not seek election in 2015. Instead he will concentrate all of his efforts on regaining the trust of the county's residents."
