Fall recycling event planned

Schuylkill County residents will have the opportunity to get rid of unwanted recyclable items during the county's annual fall cleanup and recycling event. The local collection site will be the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road in Tamaqua on the following dates and times: 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Sept. 26 and 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 27. Proof of residency will be required.

Electronics, such as television sets, microwaves and computer systems, will be accepted at no charge. This includes monitors, hard drives, printers and scanners, and peripherals and is limited to one per resident.Tires up to 16 inches in diameter will be accepted for a small fee, $2 per tire without rims and $3 per tire with rims. There is a limit of 10 tires per load, and no more than two loads per resident.There is a $10 fee for freon-bearing appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators or dehumidifiers, while non-freon bearing appliances and scrap metal will be accepted at no charge.There is also a fee for bulky items such as mattresses, box springs, carpet rolls, doors and windows ($10 each) and sofas and chairs ($5 each).
