November Guiding Star named

Each year the Concourse Club of Palmerton honors five Guiding Stars from the Palmerton Area High School. The Guiding Stars are chosen by a committee of high school educators in the district.

A Guiding Star must be a female student in the top 25 percent of the senior class and be involved in both school and community activities. Each Guiding Star receives a certificate, an engraved Guiding Star charm and a $100 cash award.Kelly Ann Westermann was selected as the November Guiding Star. She is the daughter of Sharon and Jack Westermann and has a sister, Kaitlin. Her hobbies include camping, fishing, baking and running.Kelly is a member of the National Honor Society, Environmental Club, International Travelers' Club, field hockey team, cross country team and track team. She is president of Palmerton Against Animal Cruelty.Kelly's community activities include volunteering at the Village in Palmerton, tutoring at the high school and library, and volunteering at Special Olympics.Kelly plans to attend a four-year college to receive a bachelor's degree in nursing.The Concourse Club of Palmerton extends its best wishes to Kelly for continued successes as she reaches for the stars and guides others.
